What happens during Cataract Surgery?

On surgery day, the patient is prepared for cataract surgery and sedated. It is typically an outpatient procedure at a nearby Single Day Surgery facility.

During the outpatient cataract procedure, your eye doctor removes the clouded lens and implants an artificial replacement lens—either a standard monofocal lens, or an advanced technology lifestyle lens—in its place.

The incision heals naturally and stitches are not necessary. The procedure is often performed in as little as fifteen minutes.

After the procedure, you will be allowed to return home the same day.

Vision typically improves within a few hours of cataract surgery, with complete recovery in a few days. Cataract surgery is one of the most frequently performed procedures by our Colorado Springs Eye Surgeon.
